Kansas City, Missouri, population upwards of 450,000, is said to have more fountains than any place on earth outside of Rome, and is said to be more beautiful than any other city except Paris. Chartered in the mid-19th Century and named for the local Kansa Indians, Kansas City offers a vibrant downtown, flourishing suburbs and sturdy economic base.

Called the College Basketball Capital of America, Kansas City hosts more college basketball tournaments than anywhere in the nation. Home to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas City and the Missouri Mavericks, athletics are only the tip of amenities offered by the city.

Kansas City is home to a flourishing cultural scene. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is home to the Kansas City ballet, opera and symphony. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is internationally recognized for its extensive collection of objects, as are the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary art.

Home to an internationally-recognized style of barbeque (with over barbeque 90 restaurants to prove it), Travel + Leisure called Kansas City one of the “Best Cities for Foodies” (2011). Each fall the American Royal hosts an enormous barbeque contest, which it claims is the world’s biggest.

Kansas City is often noted for its friendliness, with an easy-going attitude that marries effortlessly with forward-thinking. Called “America’s Best Downtown” (Forbes, 2011), a Most Affordable U.S. City (Forbes, 2011) and a Top 10 City for College Grads (Livability, 2011), Kansas City is a community with a heart.
